Growth Programme for the Creative and Visitor Economies
Tees Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan has identified “Digital and Creative” and “Culture and Leisure” as two of seven key sectors which are vital in boosting the regional economy and growing the range and number of jobs here. To support these sectors, the Tees Valley Combined Authority has established a £20.5million Growth Programme for the Creative and Visitor Economies.
This investment will be used to drive forward the region’s cultural, creative and hospitality sectors and its destination marketing and management operations. We are also working as part of the The North East Screen Industries Partnership, focused on enhancing the offer of our television and film industries following a £25million commitment to the north-east by the BBC. This will nurture talent, help the sector grow and create a thriving environment for broadcasters and independent productions looking to work here.
The five strands of the programme are:
COVID-19 Recovery – The establishment of a new, independent, sector-led Task Force to advise on the development and delivery of a £1million Recovery Programme for the Visitor Economy post-coronavirus.
Sustainable Sector Growth – A number of projects and partnerships to develop a Cultural & Creative Industries Cluster in the region, including the North East Screen Industries Development Programme, RSA Region of Learning, Tees Valley Creative Education Partnership and Network Development and Sector Skills Challenge Fund.
Festivals and Events – Building a diverse, distinctive and to encourage visitors and boost town centres. Programmes include Festivals Scale Up Programme, Rugby League World Cup 2021, Stockton and Darlington Railway Heritage Programme, Tall Ships and Tour of Britain.
Destination Product Development – Investing in communities, products and attractions to encourage tourism and support the Destination Management Plan.
Profile Raising – Transforming perceptions of the region and celebrating regional businesses and attractions through the development of our Destination Management Plan.
